01Prepared Speech Basics

Topic selection, structure (hook–body–impact), writing drills, and delivery practice.

Pick, plan, and perform

Choose a topic you genuinely care about and that teaches the audience something meaningful. Outline an attention-grabbing intro, a clear thesis, and 2–3 body points with vivid examples. Close by returning to the hook and stating the impact.

Structure template

Hook: Story/statistic/question.
Thesis: In one sentence, what should the audience learn/feel/do?
Roadmap: Point 1 → Point 2 → Point 3.
Body Point 1: Claim → Example → Why it matters.
Body Point 2: Claim → Example → Why it matters.
Body Point 3 (optional): Claim → Example → Why it matters.
Conclusion: Circle back to hook + call to action/insight.

Drills

  • 30-second hook sprints: write 3 different hooks for the same topic.
  • Example bank: collect 10 short stories or facts you can deploy quickly.
  • Camera reps: record 2 minutes; watch for pacing, gestures, and clarity.
